Hey beautybees! Welcome back to my new blog.
If you’re new here, check out my previous blogs. If not I will tag the link below.
In this blog, I will be giving some face wash and cleanser recommendations specifically for dry skin type. These are completely based on my own experience and nothing's sponsored.
So, let's directly get into choosing the right cleanser for dry skin type-
Dry skin π΅
Hydration is the key for us! Look for creamy or oil-based cleansers. Search for the ingredients in your cleanser like-
- Hyaluronic acid
- Glycolic acid
- Salicylic acid
- Shea butter
- Glycerin
- Vitamin C
- Urea
- Retinol
- Jojoba oil
- Aloe vera
and the list goes on and on....Well, you are not alone I too have dry and sensitive skin so let me share some of my budget-friendly recommendations.
Before that just one more thing- I have rated the products (out of 5) as per my personal experience with them and arranged them from the highest rating to the lowest one. Again, I have used all the them and this is just about sharing my personal experiences honestly, it may vary from person to person.
All the products listed below are suitable for men and women.
1. CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser- 5/5 ⭐
It's a little expensive but trust me- it is worth every penny. It's a skincare gem that deserves a permanent spot on your bathroom shelf. Excellent product! To be honest I don't exactly have words to explain this one. It doesn't foam up but it feels really good on the skin and gets a good amount of dirt and oil off. My skin felt very moisturized and soft after using it and it's pretty nicely sized for the price.
I have been using it for almost a year now in my PM routine with 0 complaints.
Featuring hyaluronic acid to hydrate the skin and 3 essential ceramides that work together to lock in skin moisture and help restore your skin’s protective barrier. MVE Delivery Technology encapsulates ceramides to ensure efficient delivery within the skin’s barrier and slow release over time. Supporting your protective skin barrier, long after you’ve finished applying. This non-comedogenic face wash is an effective yet non-irritating way to start off any skincare regimen. Best for normal to dry skin.
It's extremely gentle on my face, cleans it well and doesn't have a fragrance. It is perfect for dry and sensitive skin (followed by Cetaphil gentle censer). It is non-greasy and dermatologist-tested.
Like what else do you wanna hear about this? Though I believe nothing is "PERFECT" but this is.

2. Cetaphil Face Wash Gentle Skin Cleanser- 4.5/5 ⭐
Again this one is soap-free, sulphate with no harsh chemicals. Since this is a cleanser, it does not foam much but gently does its work without breaking your skin's natural barrier. Its consistency is not gel-based but not purely a cream-based cleanser, you can find it somewhere in between. This is one of the best cleansers I have ever used especially in winter. It removes all the dirt, access oils, unnecessary pollutants, make-up, SPF remains etc. It is the best cleanser to use after a long day, it never fails to relax your skin.
It is suitable for dry to normal skin as it says. It is fragrance-free as well!
As of my personal review- after using it for 1.5 months in summers, I felt the need to pair it with a stronger cleanser or a face wash and I paired it with Nivea Milk and Honey face wash and that combination is just OMG!!!! Works miraculously together!
It worked well in winter when my skin was extra dry.
You can easily get this from the link attached below. A bottle of 125 ml, will last for 2 months if you use it regularly twice a day.
Ingredients list- Aqua, Glycerin, Cetearyl Alcohol, Panthenol, Niacinamide, Pantolactone, Xanthan Gum, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Sodium Benzoate, Citric Acid. FIL.1747.V00
3. Dot&key Barrier Repair gentle hydrating face wash- 4.5/5 ⭐
This gel-based, soap-free face wash is specifically formulated for dry, normal, and sensitive skin. It's gentle and effective. Though this is a face wash it does not break your barrier and leaves skin feeling hydrated and moisturized by not stripping away your natural moisture.
It is a must-try for dry and sensitive skin. I have used it for almost 3 to 4 months, I just switched to try a new product but I still don't have any complaints from this face wash. I have used almost the whole range of dot&key now, but this one is formulated for dry skin. I personally highly recommend this one. It's good if you have a little hustle and don't have much time just wash your face and you will be shining bright to start your day. You don't need to pair it with any other cleanser or anything, it worked wonders for me. I still go back to this after a long day or when it has been quite a few times for using a face wash. Plus, i personally love gel-based products on my skin.
You can easily get this from the link below. A tube of 100 gm may last for 1.5 months if you use it regularly, twice daily. The quantity used at one time is seriously less than others, so yeah a BIG THUMBSUP!
Ingredients list- Aqua, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Glycerine, Decyl Glucoside, Disodium Cocoyl Glutamate, Triethanolamine, Panthenol, Laminaria Digitata Extract, Cetyl - Pg Hydroxyethyl Palmitamide, Ceramide 1, Ceramide 2, Ceramide 3, Ceramide 4, Ceramide 6 II, Sodium Hyaluronate, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Water, Lactobacillus, Maltodextrin, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Citric Acid, Tocopheryl Acetate, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Xanthan Gum, Disodium EDTA, Ifra Certified Allergen Free Fragrance, Benzyl Alcohol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Tocopherol

4. Vilvah Cream Face Wash- 4/5 ⭐
I don't understand why this one is still the most underrated face wash when it comes to dry skin. I used it almost 2 years back and for a good 10 to 11 months.
"It is made with mild, plant-based natural foaming cleansers. It creates a mild lather that removes impurities without drying the skin. It is enriched with the highest quality banana extract with potassium and Vitamin A which improves skin texture and restores skin's moisture. Excellent if your skin is often sensitive, flaky, and generally tight." This is exactly what its label says, and this is exactly what it does. It’s mild enough for everyday use without causing any breakouts or irritation so yes a must-try.
The label says it is fragrance-free, but still, it has a very mild and pleasant fragrance that can wake you up after a hard working day. It is light and chemical-free as well. Balances your skin's pH and all the good qualities one face wash should have.
As per my POV- It says it's a face wash but worked just like a cleanser. Good to remove dirt, excess oil, make-up, SPF etc etc and give you a good heads up. Its texture is quite creamy and runny, but still, it has a good thickness.
You can easily get this from the link attached below. One bottle of 100 ml will last approx 2 to 3 months if used regularly twice daily.
Ingredients list- Aqua, Disodium Cocoyl Glutamate (Vegetable derived mild surfactant), Glyceryl Oleate, Coco-Glucoside (Ecocert Compliant moisturizing Surfactant), Glycerine, Glyceryl Stearate, Polyglyceryl-6 Palmitate/Succinate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Musa sapientum (Banana) Fruit Extract, Guar Hydroxypropyl Trimonium Chloride, Elettaria Cardamomum(Cardamom) Extract, Hydrolysed Wheat Protein, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate.
5. Dr. Sheth's Cica & Ceramide Gentle Cleanser- 4/5⭐
It provides hydration, glow and cleansing all in one. It is best suited for overly dry & irritated skin. This is dermatologist-formulated cleanser is fortified with barrier-building 3 Essential Ceramides, soothing Cica Extract & Glycerin that work harmoniously to deliver instant hydration & calmness while restoring the skin’s moisture balance. Maintaining the perfect balance between effective cleansing & gentle care removes dirt & impurities without stripping the skin of its essential moisture. A non-irritating, pH-balanced & fragrance-free formula, it also helps soothe irritation & redness, suitable for even the most sensitive skin!
When I used this it gave me that rich feeling on my skin and calmness and also retains the moisture. I don't have many words to explain this one but it delivers exactly what it promised.
Above all, I really love the ingredients they are using like Aloe Vera, Glycerine etc etc. In short, it has everything a dry skin is looking for. Its texture is creamy and thick with no irritatable fragrance.
You can easily get this from the link attached below. One bottle of 125 ml which will last approx 1 to 1.25 months if used regularly twice daily.
Ingredients list- DM Water, Aloe Vera Extract, Glycerin, 1,3 Propanediol Zemea, Sodium Cocoyl, Isethionate, D-Pantolactone, Cetyl Alcohol, Dexpanthenol, Niacinamide, Cica Extract, Xanthan Gum, Sodium Benzoate, Citric Acid, Ceramide Oat Lipid E.
6. Simple Moisturising Facial Wash- 3.5/5 ⭐
I will be honest with my readers. When I first bought this face wash I didn't think it would be good for dry skin (as the company says it is suitable for all skin types) and since sulphates are on top of the ingredient list BUT BUT BUT it is perfect. The formula has definitely changed from before and I like the newer version more. Remember that it is not really moisturising but does not dry out the skin nor break me out since I have dry, sensitive and acne-prone skin. I mean you might find the need to immediately pair it with a light moisturizer. But this is good for a fresh wash after heavy make-up and SPFs.
Again, this is my personal experience it is good to go face wash for one time in a day. When I started using it regularly twice a day after 3 or 4 days my skin started to feel a lot drier. So yes, this is a good face wash, worth-the-hype type, but for me, it is good when you want to deeply cleanse your skin and not just have a fresh wash. I have justified it by 3.5 with all the reasons in hand.
It has a thick shiny texture and a strong fragrance (at least for me, but I don't have much problem with that).
You can purchase this from the link attached below. One tube of 150 ml which will last approx 1.5 months if used regularly twice daily.
Ingredient list- Aqua, Glycerin, Aqua, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Decyl Glucoside, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Glycerin, PEG-55 Propylene Glycol Oleate, Propylene Glycol, Panthenol, PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Sodium Chloride, Phenoxyethanol, Glycol Distearate, Cocamide MEA, Disodium EDTA, Bisabolol, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Laureth-10, Polyquaternium-39, Tocopheryl Acetate, Citric acid.
You can purchase the product from- https://amzn.to/3V8YNYF
7. Foxtale Hydrating Gentle Cleanser- 3.5/5 ⭐
Well, I just tried the product out because of its hype. This brand was so hyped that I was driven to try this out. And this actually lives up to the hype.
If you have too dry skin after a road trip or something, or during winter, or your skin is naturally super dry, you can blindly go for this one. I have been using it for 2 months now (even I did my AM routine just now with foxtale). It is a very simple product- it says "Hydrating face cleanser" and it delivers you "HYDRATION" like no face cleanser I mentioned above did. After I wash my face with any of the above-mentioned I used to follow with further routine but after washing my face with this one, there's no need to put anything on it and your skin won't feel dry for almost 24 hours. For hydration 100/100.
But as I said I have been using it for 2 months twice daily and now I feel the need to pair it with a face wash, sometimes I feel that it is not that good when it comes to removing make-up and SPF (or say it is summer that is making me feel this). And it was my bad I realised it quite late and now I have pimples all over my face because of the build-up (my bad!!) Rest the product is excellent for the hydration wash. Again, it's how I felt about the product, different people can feel different things. I rated it 3.5/5 based on the cleansing thing i face.
It doesn't foam much, is gentle on the face, doesn't break your skin's barrier, mild fragrance, great product for dry and sensitive skin, has super-cute convenient packaging, best for a hydrating wash. It has a smooth texture somewhere between a gel and creamy (more inclined to creamy). It is cruelty-free, suphate free, vegan and dermatologist tested.
You can purchase this from the link attached below. One bottle of 100 ml which can continue for approx 2 to 3 months if you wash it twice a day.
Ingredient list- Aqua , Sodium Cocoamphoacetate , Decyl Glucoside , Acrylates copolymer , Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate , PEG - 7 Glyceryl Cocoate , Coco glucoside , Ethylene Glycol distearate , Glycerin , Glyceryl Oleate , Olive oil PEG 7 ester , Phenoxyethanol (and) Ethylhexylglycerin (and) Octenidine HCl , 1,3 propanediol, Triethanolamine , Sodium PCA, Panthenol, Glycerin, Sodium Hyaluronate, L-Proline, Hydroxyproline , Chondrus crispus extract , Citric acid , Carbomer, Sodium phytate , Allergen-free Fragrance.
8. Minimalist 5% Aquaporin Booster Face Wash with Hyaluronic Acid- 3.5/5 ⭐
Since it is a face wash but designed especially for dry skin, it does not rip your natural barrier. It cleans all your dirt and build up on the face, a good-to-go face wash if you are looking for fresh wash or even hydrating wash,
Well, I tried it again because of the hype and it was worth it. It is a great face wash for your PM routine when you are all messed up and tired, it makes you feel clean with that goovy feel on your skin. I used 2 bottles of this and then I switched to Foxtale again to try something new. I have no complaints with this one, it was great, you should definitely try this one out. As it worked for me it doesn't work for some people with dry skin. According to them, it dries there skin completely after a wash. But it actually worked good for me
You can also try Minimalist Oat Extract 6% Gentle Cleanser. If you are not up for face wash go for this one. It works "ALMOST" the same. The cleansing difference is just 19 to 20, but the cleanser is more towards hydration as well. The 5% Aquaporin Booster Face Wash with Hyaluronic Acid also provides hydration but of course, it is a face wash and the gentle cleanser is more hydrating.
In short, if your priority is 20/20 cleansing go for 5% Aquaporin Booster face wash, it doesn't dry out my skin at all. But if you are looking primarily to the hydration point go for Minimalist Oat Extract 6% Gentle Cleanser.
It has a running texture like foxtale gentle cleanser. As the description of the product says
- Boosted with high-performance humectants like Hyaluronic Acid, Diglycerin, Glycerin, Vitamin B5 and Betaine to maintain ample moisture levels in the stratum corneum (outermost layer of the skin) even after cleansing
- Skin softening ingredients (Wheat Protein) along with skin soothing ingredients (Allantoin & Oat Extract) keep skin soft, supple & calm
- Formulated with a key ingredient (Glyceryl Glucoside) sourced from BASF (Germany)
It has a pleasant smell as well, packaging is handy. What have we not discussed about this now?
You can purchase this from the link attached below. One bottle of 100 ml can continue for approx 1 to 1.5 months if you wash your face with it twice daily.
Ingredient list- Aqua, Glycerin, Glyceryl Glucoside, Diglycerin, Methylpropanediol, Sodium Lauroyl Methyl Isethionate, Sodium Cocoamphoacetate, Disodium Cocoamphodiacetate, Pentylene Glycol, Methyl Gluceth-20, PEG-150 Pentaerythrityl Tetrastearate, Coco-Glucoside, Glyceryl Oleate, Panthenol, Betaine, Sodium PCA, PEG-120 Methyl Glucose Dioleate, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer, Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Extract, Allantoin, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate
9. The Derma Co 2% Niacinamide Gentle Skin Cleanser for Sensitive, Dry, Normal Skin- 3/5 ⭐
In the world of skincare, we call Cetaphil, Cera ve and Derma co. "Three men in a boat". They work very similarly with little differences. The texture of this one is quite thicker than the Cetaphil gentle cleanser and with same effectiveness as Cetaphil, the best part is it is cheap best face wash for sensitive dry skin. Also, it does not any fragrance and doesn't create foaming. It doesn't strip my natural oils and maintains the pH of the skin while cleaning the face. The container is pretty handy and easy to use really liked this one. But I feel it's good for women but for men, they need a little less gentle cleanser as they have more dirt on their skin and oil sometimes. But otherwise, it's amazing.
As per my personal experience, I'm a rare skin type, dry, acne-prone, sensitive! This cleanser calmed inflammation and gave no burning sensation, but it somehow gave me milia on my forehead. It's got soothing ingredients but cleansing action can be improved, as it's too gentle to remove heavy moisturizer (forget sunscreen)! And don't expect any brightening effect. Best used as a morning cleanser. The upside is that it's fragrance-free, dermatologist proof and budget-friendly! I have given it 3 just because its cleansing was not good enough for me as I am an SPF user rest of this one is fine.
You can purchase this product from the link attached below. One bottle can continue for approx 1.5- 2 months if you wash it twice a day.
I just don't have any picture of the texture of this product because I just used 1 bottle of this too long ago whenever I wanted gentle cleansing but its texture is very creamy.
Ingredient list-Aqua, Cetostearyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Niacinamide, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Phenoxyethanol Ethylhexylglycerin, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Xanthan Gum, Cica Extract, Cetyl Alcohol, Carbomer, Saccharide Isomerate, Sodium Gluconate, Ceramide Complex, Oatmeal Extract, Vitamin E, Citric Acid and Sodium Citrate.
10. Nivea Milk and Honey Face Wash- 3/5 ⭐
Well if you a looking for an extremely budget-friendly option- you got this one! I have used it for almost a year and a half at the beginning of my skincare journey (just switched because of course, there are better options available and I always want to try more and more). It easily removes all heavy make-up ( including waterproof foundation). After the use, your skin looks & feels so plumbing, and moisturized. It has a creamy texture and is especially good to use in winter when your skin feels extra dry.
I generally paired this one with the Cetaphil face cleanser (mentioned above) using it simultaneously for AM and PM routines and it worked miracles. Again it has a creamy texture and does not have any strong fragrance. I have given it 3 because no doubt this face wash is amazing but still better options are available in the market. But if you are in the beginning of your journey its good one to start with.
Milk acts as a natural cleanser that removes dirt & impurities and nourishes your skin for a healthy glow. Honey prevents water loss & contains natural moisturizers to keep your skin hydrated and moisturized. It maintains the pH value of the skin like nothing because of these two ingredients.
You can get this from the link attached below. One bottle of 100 ml which will last for 1 month if used regularly twice daily.
Ingredient list- Aqua, Glycerin, Sodium Myreth Sulfate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Acrylates Copolymer, Sorbitol, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Chloride, Mannitol, Ethylparaben, Methylparaben, Cellulose, Polyquaternium-7, Potassium Cocoate, Sodium Hydroxide, PEG-14M, Sine Adipe Lac, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Sodium Benzoate, Propylene Glycol, Mel, Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose, Potassium Sorbate, Methyl Benzoate, BHT, Perfume, CI 77891, CI 77492, CI 77491, CI 77499.
The Final Word
Although there are so many cleansing agents (face washes and face cleansers) available in the market, it's obvious to get confused but the above 10 I mentioned are worth trying and you will not regret a single one of them.
There are many more cleansing agents available in the market
But I didn't find all these brands so impressive to put it in my top 10 list,
But still, if you don't have chosen yet or didn't feel like trying the stuff I mentioned above I got 2 bonus points for you
- Himalaya Moisturizing Aloe Vera Face Wash- Himalaya works great but I found my skin drying out after a few washes. Again, it's my opinion and yours might vary. (https://amzn.to/45c0Ek7)
- Hyphen Moisturizing Creamy Face Wash for Dry & Sensitive Skin- You can definitely try this one out blindly if you still have not chosen yet. If you again got confused then i strongly recommend going for this one until you do choose. Yes, this one worked great but again, there are better options available. (https://amzn.to/3KpnsDF)
In conclusion, finding the right face wash for dry skin can make a world of difference. It’s all about striking that perfect balance between cleansing and hydration. Look for products that are gentle, non-foaming, and packed with moisturizing ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and ceramides. Remember, the goal is to cleanse without stripping away those precious natural oils.
As you experiment with different products, pay attention to how your skin feels and reacts. Everyone’s skin is unique, so what works wonders for one person might not be ideal for another. Listen to your skin and adjust your routine as needed. And always follow up with a good moisturizer to lock in that hydration.
